Associate of Applied Science in Nursing
Shawna Schooley was born and raised in the Yakima Valley. While attending Davis High School she took some classes at YVCC through the Running Start Program, but was never a full-time college student. Following high school, Schooley attended Everett Community College on a cross country and track and field scholarship. She later transferred to Great Falls, Montana, but ultimately decided to return to the Yakima Valley and attend YVCC’s Nursing Program. “I chose nursing because at a young age I was in a life-threatening motorcycle accident. As I recovered my parents told me about all of the care the nurses did for me,” stated Schooley. “This inspired me to become a nurse and to better the field of nursing,” she continued. YVCC’s program allows Shawna the opportunity to study in the classroom environment as well as hands-on work during clinical rotations. She is currently placed at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. “I would definitely recommend YVCC’s program to others. They have a great pass rate and the instructors are very good at what they do,” she concluded. Schooley will graduate in the spring. She plans to begin working in a local hospital.
