An alumnus of YVCC and former ASYVCC President, Matthew Robinson found success through YVCC’s Adult Basic Education (ABE) program before completing his college coursework at YVCC and transferring to Central Washington University (CWU). At CWU he earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations. Today, Robinson works at Curator, a public relations agency in Seattle, WA as an account executive.

How did ABE faculty/staff help motivate you to continue your education?

Everyone involved with the program had an impact on me. I often say that the staff in YVCC’s ABE program are doing God’s work. They give more than academic instruction; they give confidence, hope, encouragement, and dignity to their students. I never once felt ashamed while I was there, because every teacher, counselor, and support person encouraged me. Before walking in those doors, I was embarrassed about dropping out, but they helped me focus on the future and what I could accomplish if I stuck with it.
