Associates in Arts

Twin brothers and YVCC graduates Jakob and Nicholas Ward began attending YVCC through the Running Start Program during their junior year in high school. “I chose the Running Start Program because it allowed me to get my AA degree while still in high school, which will lessen the cost of attending another four-year college in the future,” stated Nicholas Ward. “I liked that the classes were small enough that you can receive one-on-one help from instructors. There were also many resources available to help me succeed,” he continued. They graduated this June from high school and earned their associates of arts degrees from YVCC. Each brother also received the maximum scholarship of $7,500 from the Yakima Rotary Trust’s Mary Monroe Davis Scholarship. They will use this funding while attending the University of Washington in the fall. Jakob will pursue a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and Nicholas will pursue a bachelor’s degree in architecture. “This funding was beneficial to me because it has helped me worry less about paying for my first year of college. Because of this scholarship, I don’t have to take out any student loans,” stated Jakob Ward.
