Associate in Arts

A Running Start Student from Sunnyside High School, Carlos Correa began attending YVCC’s Grandview Campus in the fall of 2013. “I chose the Running Start Program so that I could get ahead of my class and graduate high school with my associates degree,” stated Correa. Wanting to get more involved on campus, Correa was elected as the Grandview Student Council (GSC) President. “Being involved with GSC has helped my motivation. Last year all I would do is go to school and go home just like any regular high school student. But now that I work for the college I feel more empowered to manifest my own destiny; really create my future how I want it to be,” stated Correa. “I also feel more connected to our school, because my job is to better the lives of our students whatever that entails, so I try to do all that I can to do just that. I would definitely recommend students get involved with student government because it gives students a powerful way to voice not only their opinion but the opinion of all of our students, which is something worth listening to,” he continued. Correa will graduate with as associate in arts degree. Following YVCC he plans to transfer to four-year university and pursue a degree in neurobiology. Ultimately he plans to become a neurosurgeon.
